Plumbing and Electrical
An important first step to remodeling your kitchen is to determine where your plumbing and electrical outlets are located. If you are planning on leaving your kitchen layout as is, you don’t have to worry about this step. If you plan to change your kitchen layout, you will need to determine where your appliances can go, or if you need to reroute some electrical outlets and plumbing. As a rule of thumb, your kitchen sink should be located under a window, or at the very least on an outside wall. It is easiest to install water pipes along an outside wall, and if you choose to go another route you may have complications.
2. Paint
If you are planning to repaint your kitchen, this should be done before new cabinets and flooring are installed. If you are removing the old cabinets yourself, this is a great time to repaint the walls. If you are having professionals remove the old cabinets for you, paint to the edges of the countertop and as close to the edges of the existing cabinets as possible. Doing this before getting new cabinets will prevent getting paint on your new items. Once your new cabinets are installed, you may find gaps between the size of the old and the new. Touch up as needed.
3. Flooring and Trim
Flooring can be installed before or after kitchen cabinets. We recommend installing new floors after cabinets are installed to prevent the cabinets being uneven on the floor. There are a lot of options on the market today for flooring. There are the traditional wood based options of hard wood or laminate, a more affordable option made from pressed composite wood. If these aren’t right for you, there is plastic based vinyl, an affordable waterproof option. The newest and hottest flooring on the market is Stone Polymer Composite(SPC). Essentially an upgraded vinyl, SPC is waterproof like vinyl, with the rigidity and lifespan of wood flooring because of its limestone core. Additionally, you never have to worry about resurfacing your SPC, and it is much more scratch resistant than traditional wood or laminate.
4. Place Large Appliances
Whether you are purchasing new appliances or using your existing appliances, you should determine where they will be placed in your kitchen. There are typically limited spaces to place your appliances, and you should have these determined before proceeding with your kitchen layout.
5. Kitchen Cabinets
Finding the right cabinets for your kitchen can be a difficult process. Follow these steps to streamline the process:
Choose a color
Choose cabinet style: Do you want timeless framed cabinets or would you prefer frameless cabinets for a sleek, modern look?
What type of kitchen layout do you have? Will you need corner cabinets?
How tall are your wall cabinets? Do you like this height?
What specialty cabinets will you want? (Spice Racks, Waste Baskets etc.)
Measure your kitchen: Ceiling height, wall length, distance from windows and major appliances to walls.
Have a layout and rendering made. This will give you a better idea of what your new kitchen will look like and minimize any measurement issues. We offer this service to any potential customer free of charge!
Have an estimate made. This is another service we offer free of charge.

6. Countertops
The final step in your kitchen remodel is to replace the countertop. Make sure to budget for your countertop, as a beautiful countertop will really bring everything together. Granite and Quartz countertops are both great options for a timeless, eye catching countertop. Granite countertops are cut from stone and have natural patterns and coloring. Quartz is also made from natural stone, but man-manufactured. This gets rid of any imperfections and eliminates the need to seal the countertop. If you can’t decide between the two, just find your favorite color.
