Vinyl Care & Maintenance
Maintaining Your Luxury Vinyl Flooring
-
Use doormats to help keep out abrasive materials such as dirt and small stones.
-
Sweep or vacuum the floor regularly and clean up spills right away.
-
Use mild cleansers such as a light vinegar-solution that will not damage your floor.
-
Be careful to use cleansers that are appropriate for vinyl flooring.
-
Use felt tips underneath the furniture to avoid scratches and scuffs.
-
When moving heavy furniture, lay a sheet of plywood on your floor and “walk” the item to prevent scratches.
-
Do not pinch your flooring with heavy fixtures such as cabinetry, as this will prevent it from freely expanding and contracting, and may result in floorboards separating.
Deep Cleaning Your Luxury Vinyl Flooring
-
Add a tablespoon of dish soap to your vinegar solution to help lift dirt in the floor.
-
Use a soft cloth or a soft, nylon-bristle brush to avoid scuffing your floor.
What to Avoid
-
Do not use abrasive cleaners. Never use ammonia or bleach to clean your vinyl flooring.
-
Do not use a vacuum with a beater bar or brush as this will scratch your floor.
-
Avoid getting the floor too wet or leave sitting water, as water may find its way through the seams and damage the subfloor or cause mildew buildup.
-
Do not use a steam mop or hot water to clean your floors, as heat can warp the vinyl.
-
Make sure to leave at least a quarter-inch expansion gap against the wall when installing the vinyl. The bigger the are the bigger the gap needs to be.
-
Do not expose your floors to extreme temperatures. Even if the home is empty do not turn off air conditioning or heating.
